What's Happening On The Farm
This is where I will keep you updated on what is going on at the farm. Today is the last day of April, 2024, and we have a lot going on! Today, Kevin and I will be castrating two of our male piglets so they can be sold as feeder pigs. Our sow Pebbles is due to have her second litter any day now and we are very excited about this litter! She has been bred with our boar Zeus and the piglets should be very cute and colorful. I will share a picture with you as soon as she delivers. We also are keeping a close eye on our cow, Buttercup. She ate a plastic bag that she snatched from my pocket, and we are worried that it may cause some problems getting stuck in her digestive system. Cows have several stomachs and a complicated digestive system, and we have heard this may get stuck and may need to be surgically removed if so. ☹ We have two types of ducks on the farm: Rouen and Ancona ducks. We have one Rouen drake with two hens and one Ancona drake with one hen. We cannot find the Ancona hen, she may be hiding somewhere on a stash of eggs or taken by a predator? We do not know. Our duck’s free range (we have had them fenced in the past, but they are much happier free ranging) but the Ancona ducks tend to stick around the house. We also have a chicken hen that has gone broody and today is day 6 of her sitting on eggs. We should expect chicks in about 22 days! We will keep you posted on all the events here on this page as well as our Facebook page and our YouTube Channel (The Morgan Homestead)
Until next time,
Sandy and Kevin Morgan
